29-year-old man dies after shooting at family party in Oceanside

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A 29-year-old man died after a shooting at a family party in Oceanside Saturday night, according to police.

The shooting happened in the 3100 block of Jacqueline Lane, near Thunder Road and just down the street from the Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside.

Neighbors say they heard anywhere from eight to 10 shots fired at around 8 p.m. According to witnesses, the shooting happened at a baptism with a number of children present.

Police identified the shooting victims as 29-year-old Jose Jimenez, of Oceanside; 45-year-old Steven Hernandez, of Vista; and 26-year-old Alonso Canseco, of Vista.

According to police, when officers arrived, the three men had already been taken to the hospital by family members.

Police said Jimenez died from his injuries. Hernandez and Canseco are recovering from their injuries.

Police are investigating what led to the shooting, but witnesses said an argument preceded the gunfire.
