We have all seen firsthand how important hunger-relief organizations are to those who experience a crisis. Feeding San Diego answered the call when the pandemic first hit and with the community’s help continues to provide food assistance to anyone in need. Thousands of people are still waiting in line for food every week.

To continue to raise awareness and funds for Feeding San Diego, the local hunger-relief and food rescue non-profit that provides food assistance throughout San Diego County, ABC 10News is hosting its annual Month of a Million Meals holiday campaign.

As Feeding San Diego continues its vital work to provide food assistance for more people than ever, your tax-deductible donation to Feeding San Diego can have a direct impact. Your contribution will make a difference in the life of a child, family, senior, college student, military family or veteran who may be faced with impossible choices, forced to choose between putting food on the table or paying another essential expense, like a medical bill or housing.

Help us reach our goal of a million meals by making a financial gift during the Month of a Million Meals.

Feeding San Diego can provide two meals for every $1 donated. We must work together to ensure no one experiences hunger in San Diego County, because we believe food is a basic human right.

Together we can end hunger through food rescue.

OUR STORIES

ABOUT FEEDING SAN DIEGO

Feeding San Diego is a non-profit organization on a mission to end hunger through food rescue.

Established in 2007, Feeding San Diego is the leading hunger-relief and food rescue organization in San Diego County and the only Feeding America affiliate in the region. Our organization provides more than 40.3 million meals every year to children, families, seniors, college students, military families, and veterans in partnership with a network of 292 local charities, schools, faith communities, meal sites, and food pantries.

Last year, more than 70 percent of the food provided to the community was rescued from local and national food donors. By diverting high-quality food from the landfill and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Feeding San Diego protects people and the planet.

WHY IT MATTERS

  • The recovery from the pandemic will be much slower for the most vulnerable populations who continue to experience disproportionate rates of food insecurity.
  • Feeding San Diego continues to operate large-scale, drive-through food distributions to address the rising numbers of San Diegans facing hunger, serving over 150,000 people alone through these distributions since February 2021.
  • Feeding San Diego has continuously increased the number of meals served over the past few years: last year it served a 29% increase in meals, for a total of 40,373,990 meals up from 31,240,614 the previous year.
  • The consequences of hunger on individuals, families, and the community are devastating and far-reaching, affecting academic achievement, workforce preparedness, cognitive and physical development, and health and well-being.
  • 70% of the food distributed by Feeding San Diego is rescued from local and national food donors and then distributed to people facing hunger, providing a solution for minimizing food waste and addressing food insecurity.
