CHULA VISTA – A driver walked away without serious injury after he lost control of his truck on a slippery Interstate 5 freeway in Chula Vista and went flying down an embankment early Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred on southbound I-5 near the J Street offramp at around 3:30 a.m. The driver told 10News he swerved to avoid a car that was hydroplaning alongside him when he lost control of his truck and rolled down an embankment and into a fence. The driver was not hurt.
California Highway Patrol officers said the fence stopped the truck from rolling into a heavy flowing drainage ditch.
CHP shut down the J Street onramp and one lane of traffic while a tow truck cleared the scene.
