SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - Authorities are investigating a fire that destroyed a car parked in a Santee neighborhood over the weekend. Deputies think the fire was set intentionally.
The incident happened at about 1 a.m. on May 13, in the 9400 block of Pearlwood Road, according to authorities.
Several residents told 10News they woke up to two loud booms and saw a convertible car on fire in a driveway. The owner of the car said it was just purchased last Thursday.
After neighbors helped put the fire out with fire extinguishers, they noticed two Mason jars next to the vehicle and a rag inside the car. A sergeant with the sheriff's department says the jars had flammable liquid inside and were placed right underneath the car's gas tank.
10News learned the sheriff’s department’s Bomb/Arson Unit is investigating the fire and the items that were left at the scene. They are also looking at surveillance video from a house across the street.
No injuries were reported.
