Rideshare driver stabbed during carjacking, El Cajon Police say

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man is in custody after police say he stabbed a rideshare driver in the chest Tuesday night.

El Cajon Police say they received several 911 calls regarding a carjacking on the 1000 block of East Madison Street around 6:30 p.m.

Police say the man tried to carjack the driver before pulling out a weapon and stabbing the driver in the chest.

The driver was taken to the hospital with a puncture wound and is expected to be okay.

The suspect, identified as Damon Thomas from Lemon Grove, fled the scene and was apprehended on the 5000 block of Baltimore Drive.

After being identified by a witness, Thomas was taken into custody.

The victim drives for both Uber and Lyft. It’s unclear which service the driver was working for at the time of the stabbing.
