(KGTV) -- President Joe Biden opposes the effort to recall Governor Gavin Newsom, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said Tuesday.
In a tweet, Psaki noted that Biden and Newsom share interests in addressing the climate crisis and the coronavirus pandemic.
In addition to sharing a commitment to a range of issues with @GavinNewsom from addressing the climate crisis to getting the pandemic under control, @POTUS clearly opposes any effort to recall @GavinNewsom

The statement comes as the recall effort gains steam amid COVID-19 related lockdowns throughout California.
Over the weekend, organizers said they’ve collected nearly 1.5 million signatures required to place the proposal on this year’s ballot.
The news also comes as Republicans John Cox and former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announce gubernatorial runs.

Turbulent politics could sway California recall election
Faulconer recently signed onto the petition, painting the state as rife with turmoil.
“Jobs are leaving, homelessness is skyrocketing, and the state can’t even do the basics like issue unemployment checks to people who at this very moment are struggling to get by," Faulconer said.
Meanwhile, Cox opened his second campaign for California governor with a television ad attacking Faulconer.
