One dead after gang-related shooting at Escondido bar, police say

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — One person is dead after an apparent gang-related shooting at a North County bar early Saturday.

Police received calls about a shooting just before 1 a.m. Two people had been shot at a bar in the 100 block of W. Grand Ave.

Both victims were rushed to Palomar Hospital.

The suspect, identified as Manuel Eliseo Martinez, 32, remained nearby and witnesses were able to point him out to officers.

Police chased Martinez several blocks and took him into custody after a brief struggle.

One victim died from his wounds at the hospital. His name has not been released pending family notification. The second gunshot victim received non-life threatening injuries and is expected to survive.

Martinez was booked into Vista Jail and has been charged with murder, attempted murder, and other charges.
