VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — A nine-year-old boy was home alone as an intruder broke in and ransacked a North County home Wednesday, San Diego deputies say.

San Diego Sheriff's Department (SDSO) said the man made his way into the home on Seacrest Court in Vista at about 9:30 a.m. through a rear sliding door. The man started throwing objects around the home while a nine-year-old boy was alone in the home, according to deputies.

The boy ran to the garage to hide and then to a neighbor's home to call for help. The boy was not injured.

The man was gone before deputies arrived.

SDSO is searching for the suspect, who they described as an African-American man in his 20s, with short brown hair, and last seen wearing a Captain America t-shirt and tan shorts. He also has a bandage on one of his knees.

It's unclear what the man took from the home.

Anyone who sees the man is asked to call 911 and not to approach him.
