SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego law enforcement officials announced Saturday an arrest in connection with the shooting death of an 18-year-old man in Imperial Beach.
Johnnathan Riebeling, 19, was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder following an investigation into the slaying of Diego Rodriguez, said Lt. Thomas Seiver of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Unit.
The investigation began early Friday morning when Chula Vista Police Department officers responded to Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista for a report of a male with a gunshot wound.
The victim succumbed to their injuries and died at 1:06 a.m., Seiver said.
The victim was identified as Rodriguez, 18, of San Diego.
Seiver said the the person who drove Rodriguez to the hospital left shortly after dropping him off.
"The cause of death is a single gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death is homicide," Seiver said.
Hours later, Chula Vista Police Department's Crimes of Violence Unit detectives were led to a residence in the 400 block of Seventh Street in Imperial Beach, where Riebeling was contacted, Seiver said.
While at the residence, detectives discovered what is believed to be the scene of the shooting, according to Seiver.
Riebeling was arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into the San Diego Central Jail.
