MIRA MESA - High-rising waters trapped three people in their cars in Mira Mesa, prompting a water rescue.

The cars became trapped just after 3 p.m. on Carroll Canyon Road and Pacific Heights Boulevard. San Diego Fire Rescue crews were able to safely rescue the drivers and passengers.

The driver of one vehicle said the water level didn't seem that high, leading them to try and cross and become stuck.

Flash flooding has prompted road closures throughout the county. Police urge drivers to be careful and not to try and cross flooded roads.

A powerful storm wielded its might on Friday, bringing down trees across the county and creating hazards for drivers and homeowners.

Flash flooding is expected in some areas as heavy storm cells move through the region this afternoon. High winds are also wreaking havoc - storm debris has been reported on roadways throughout the county. And SDG&E is reporting widespread power outages.
