A driver captured the first moments of the Lilac Fire that broke out in the northern portion of San Diego County Thursday.
The video shows smoke filling the air as fire crews struggled to battle the massive flames.
The Lilac Fire quickly erupted from half an acre to more than 500 acres and, as of Friday night, had consumed at least 4,100 acres.
A bit of relief came Friday as strong Santa Ana winds calmed down for the day, allowing firefighters to get the Lilac Fire 15 percent contained.
