SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Scripps Health says it has hundreds of open COVID-19 vaccination appointments at its Del Mar Fairgrounds site this week.

The healthcare provider said Monday that only about 30% of 1,000 available appointments were scheduled for Monday, about 20% of an available 1,500 slots were scheduled for Tuesday, and only about half of 700 available appointments were taken for Wednesday.

The Del Mar Fairgrounds vaccination station is drive-thru for the Pfizer vaccine and by appointment only, according to Scripps Health. More time slots for later this week are also expected to be posted in the next few days, Scripps added.

Residents who are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine and interested in scheduling an appointment can visit the county's website here.

This week, the county's largest vaccination site outside Petco Park was temporarily closed and appointments were rescheduled due to a delay in expected shipments of vaccine doses. The site is scheduled to remain closed for second doses from Feb. 19-22.

Despite the closure, the county's vaccination points of dispensing (PODs) and the North County Super Station in San Marcos are still offering appointments for second dose vaccinations only. First dose appointments at these sites, however, have been rescheduled due to the shortage of doses.

Sharp Healthcare's vaccination sites at Chula Vista Center and Grossmont Center are also offering first- and second-dose appointments this week for the Pfizer vaccine to eligible residents.

CAL FIRE San Diego is also offering appointments for eligible recipients on Thursday and Friday in Carlsbad (Thursday link \ Friday link) and at Cuyamaca College in El Cajon (Thursday link \ Friday link) for first and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
