SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. (KGTV) - Two people are in jail after Border Patrol agents discovered more than $200,000 in narcotics in their vehicle.

On Wednesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said a 2008 Mercedes Smart car was stopped traveling on Interstate 5 just before 9 p.m. three miles from a San Clemente Border Patrol checkpoint.

The 25-year-old male driver and 60-year-old female passenger told agents they were heading to La Puente, Calif., CBP said.

Upon the stop, a canine unit indicated a positive alert and agents searched the vehicle, discovering 75 bundles of methamphetamine and two packages containing an unknown substance.

The meth has a street value of $256,734. The unknown substance was taken to a lab for testing.

Borde Patrol agents seized the Smart car and the couple was arrested and is now in the custody of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
