CHULA VISTA, Calif. – No one was hurt after a boat went up in flames in the San Diego Bay near Chula Vista Friday morning.
The blaze broke out on the 50-foot boat sometime before 11 a.m. Flames and plumes of smoke could be seen for miles. San Diego Harbor Police Department responded with fire boats to extinguish the flames. One person aboard at the time was safely rescued. The U.S. Coast Guard responded as well to help keep other boats back while Harbor police crews battled the flames.
The circumstances and cause of the fire were not immediately confirmed.
Early Friday morning, a boat docked at Shelter Island also caught fire. A woman sustained minor burn injuries. The cause of that fire is also under investigation.
