SAN DIEGO – A boat docked off Shelter Island caught fire Friday morning, leaving one woman with minor burns.

The fire was reported at 5:33 a.m. in the 2200 block of Shelter Island Drive in Half Moon Marina near the Humphreys Half Moon Inn. Witnesses reported hearing several explosions.

San Diego Fire-Rescue crews and San Diego Harbor Police responded to find a 30-foot power boat engulfed in flames and a woman with minor burns to her legs. Crews were able to knock down the bulk of the fire by 6:30 a.m. and were extinguishing hot spots.

According to a Harbor police incident commander on scene, officers were trying to keep water out of the boat so it would not sink. They were also concerned about a possible fuel spill in the harbor. They were planning to tow the boat as soon as it was stable.

The victim was treated at the scene, but refused transport to a hospital. Two adjacent boats sustained minor damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
