SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Aug. 25, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the National Park Service Act, establishing the National Park Service as a federal agency.
On Friday, the NPS turns 101 and is waiving park entrance fees to celebrate.

Every year, NPS celebrates their birthday by hosting special events, waiving entrance fees, and other programs at all 124 national parks across the country.
In California, that means free admission to:
- Cabrillo National Monument
- Death Valley National Park
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Lassen Volcanic National Park
- Lava Beds National Monument
- Muir Woods National Monument
- Pinnacles National Park
- San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park
- Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks
- Whiskeytown National Recreation Area
- Yosemite National Park
Cabrillo National Monument will host a special Founder's Day event from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., including ranger-led walks and talks, park film screenings, and open admittance to the Old Point Loma Lighthouse latern and balcony.

If you miss Friday, though, don't worry. There are three more opportunities to take advantage of free admission to national parks: Sept. 30 for National Public Lands Day, and Nov. 11-12 for Veterans Day weekend.
Military service members can also take advantage of a free annual pass.
