ABC 10News Pinpoint Forecast for August 22, 2026: Heat intensifies this week

Extreme heat is headed for San Diego County this week, as if these abnormally hot temperatures weren't enough already.

The inland valleys and mountains begin the heat wave with a Heat Advisory Sunday and Monday.

Temperatures will be about 5-10 degrees above normal.

Meantime, temps on the coast will be in the upper 70s to low 90s and around 114 for much of the deserts.

On Monday, temperatures actually do dip by up to 5 degrees, but the minor relief is short-lived. The mountains have a slight chance at seeing afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

The coast, valleys and mountains will enter an Extreme Heat Watch from Tuesday morning through Friday evening.

Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s and mid 90s for much of the coast in that window, with many spots inland peaking in the triple digits.

The deserts will instead be in an Extreme Heat Warning all the way through Friday.

Many records could be tied or set this week — starting with 86 degrees in Chula Vista on Saturday, which tied a record.

Ramona (105), Palomar Mountain (97), Campo (104) and Borrego Springs start the trend with potential records on the horizon starting Wednesday.

In fact, Palomar Mountain has the chance to tie or set a new record each day Wednesday through Saturday.

Sunday's Highs:
Coast: 78-92°
Inland: 92-99°
Mountains: 88-103°
Deserts: 107-114°
