(KGTV) - The San Diego Padres made national headlines with a historic offseason signing, and now Sports Illustrated is putting the spotlight on the squad just days before the start of the 2019 season.
New acquisition Manny Machado and hotshot prospect Fernando Tatis Jr. grace the cover of SI’s annual MLB baseball preview issue. The March 25 issue shows the Padres teammates with the headline: “Who’s Your Padre? Baseball’s Future Rocks (and Rakes) in San Diego.”
Expectations for the Friars have been very high since signing the All-Star infielder Machado to a 10-year, $300 million deal, and Sports Illustrated senior baseball writer Tom Verducci has the Padres as one of his “top turnaround teams” for the upcoming season.
Verducci said that while San Diego is “one of the most unpredictable teams in baseball,” he notes that the team is “loaded with high-end young talent.”
