LA MESA (KGTV)--A busy stretch of westbound Interstate 8 was shut down for six hours Wednesday because of emergency bridge repairs on the El Cajon Boulevard overpass.
The traffic incident began at 10:35 a.m. as a pothole formed on a bridge.
Two lanes of westbound I-8 were closed until about 4:30 p.m. and traffic was backed up for about two miles to the Magnolia Avenue exit.
The developing situation caused vehicles to slam on their brakes, according to the California Highway Patrol traffic incident page.
There was no reported threat to structural integrity.
