SAN DIEGO ? A local baseball coach was caught on video Wednesday angrily storming the field at Westview High School in Torrey Highlands during a travel team tournament.
Trent Holbrook, coach of San Marcos-based RIP Baseball, was upset about the calls being made by an umpire. Holbrook was kicked out of the game, according to the man who sent 10News the footage.
RIP Baseball, a team comprised of teens, is scheduled to play again Thursday, but they will be without their coach.
A tournament official told 10News that Holbrook has been banned indefinitely from coaching at any U.S. Amateur Baseball Federation. Additionally, a RIP Baseball assistant coach was also suspended.
Holbrook spoke to 10News on Thursday afternoon, and he said he regrets his behavior and felt that he went too far.
Holbrook claimed umpires were "speaking inappropriately" to his players. He explained the umpires were not using foul language, but they were virtually mocking the players when they questioned balls and strikes.
Holbrook said other assistant coaches would manage RIP Baseball when they play USABF tournaments.
RIP Baseball has eight more tournaments left in their season, but they will be allowed to play despite Holbrook's ban.
