(KGTV) - A dramatic shootout between a driver and an Arkansas sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop was captured on the deputy’s dashcam.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred Nov. 11 when Cpl. Brett Thompson tried to pull over 29-year-old Luis Cobos-Cenobio near Tontitown for a traffic violation.

Sheriff’s officials said Cobos-Cenobio stopped, but as Thompson got out of his car, dashcam video captured Cobos-Cenobio open his driver’s side door and fire several shots from a handgun.

Thompson returned fire, and both men exchanged gunfire for 53 seconds until Cobos-Cenobio drove off.

After an alert was issued for Cobos-Cenobio, he was spotted later in the day by police in the town of Springdale. He engaged in a gun battle with officers before fleeing the area.

Following a pursuit, Cobos-Cenobio was tracked down and arrested.

Cobos-Cenobio, sheriff’s officials said, suffered a wound to his left arm. He was treated and released into law enforcement custody.

Cobos-Cenobio was charged with attempted capital murder, committing a terrorist act, fleeing, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
