OCEANSIDE -- A suspected kidnapper was arrested after a pursuit through Oceanside that ended in a crash early Tuesday.

Oceanside police report that the incident began at about 3:30 a.m. when an officer attempted to pull over a car with two occupants on Calle Los Santos for a code violation. The car refused to stop and a chase ensued. The car crashed in the 1500 block of Sleeping Indian Road. The driver fled, leaving the passenger behind. Officers apprehended the passenger and found two handguns and a shotgun in the car.

The driver was discovered hiding in the 1400 block of Wilshire Road during an ensuing K-9 search.

Meanwhile, while this chase unfolded, dispatchers received a 911 call from the 400 block of Sleeping Indian in which the caller claimed he had been held at gunpoint in a trailer for several hours by a stranger with a shotgun and handgun. The victim said he had been visiting an acquaintance when the suspect entered the trailer and held him against his will, Oceanside police said in a news release.

Officers later determined the kidnapper was the passenger in the chase car. The officer who was conducting the traffic stop was unaware of the kidnapping incident.

The names of the two people in custody and the charges they might face were not released. The investigation is ongoing.
