SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A suspected drunken driver was arrested after authorities said he led a high-speed chase that started in the La Mesa area and ended near Camp Pendleton.
Just before 1 a.m. Friday, California Highway Patrol officers tried to pull over a man suspected of driving drunk in a Mercedes SUV on westbound Interstate 8, but the driver refused to stop.
The driver sped away from I-8 to northbound Interstate 5, reaching speeds as high as 120 mph.
As the SUV approached the Border Patrol checkpoint in San Onofre, agents shut down the area and created a roadblock to stop all traffic.
Near the checkpoint, a CHP cruiser was able to execute a PIT maneuver, causing the SUV to spin out.
The unidentified driver was arrested, and 10News learned law enforcement officers searching the SUV found a fake human skull and fake penis inside.
