LEMON GROVE (KGTV) - A suspected drunk driver led police on a high-speed chase approaching speeds over 100 mph through Lemon Grove early Thursday morning leaving a trail of damaged property, including an elementary school.
The incident began at around 12:50 a.m. when California Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding along southbound SR-125 near the Spring Street exit in Lemon Grove, according to California Highway Patrol officials.
The vehicle sped away from the officers. During the pursuit, the driver crashed the car through a fence at Mount Vernon Elementary School, smashed through another fence then driving back onto the street.
The chase ended at the corner of Skyline Drive and Canton Drive when the the suspect slammed into a utility pole.
The male driver and his two passengers were taken into custody. It is unknown at this time if the suspect and passengers suffered any injuries.
The driver was transported by medics to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where we hear he will be evaluated for DUI.
