South Bay police investigating body discovered in North County

TEMECULA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The County Medical Examiner's Office has identified a body discovered off Pala Road at the border of San Diego and Riverside Counties. 

Detectives found the body of Alexandria Nicole Smith, 30, around noon Thursday. 

Smith's mother, who reported her missing, last saw her daughter leaving their home in the College Area heading to National City on October 2, according to detectives. 

Smith was last seen alive by someone in National City, police said. Her cell phone was found October 4 in a trash dumpster in Vista.

Her 2014 Toyota Corolla was found parked along Rancho California Road in Temecula, police said. Detectives told 10News she died of asphyxiation and was found fully clothed with a blanket over her body. 

Several people have been identified as persons of interest, no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
