SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego celebrated its expansion on Thursday.
The charity added a second facility that will house eight families just a walk away from Rady Children's Hospital.
The facility has eight rooms with an attached bathroom, a large kitchen, a playroom for children and a reflection room. Each family will get its own room.
The expansion comes at a time when the Ronald McDonald House Charities is working to accommodate families in need. Every night at least 30 families are placed on a waitlist.
The Ronald McDonald House's main house fits 47 families. With this addition, the charity can now house a total of 55 families overnight.
Thursday's re-grand opening included a ribbon cutting ceremony and a human chain of volunteers passing donations from the main house to the new house.
The families move into the new house on Monday.
