SAN DIEGO (KGTV)--One person lost their life following a fall off of a North County freeway ramp early Sunday morning, officials said.
A pickup truck containing three occupants went over the side of a transition ramp from northbound Interstate 5 to eastbound State Route 78 around 1:30 a.m., Oceanside Fire Department said in a statement.
Fire Battalion Chief Pete Lawrence said the roof of the truck was "crushed all the way down to the hood/door line of the vehicle, trapping all of the occupants inside."
Rainy and muddy conditions off the embankment challenged rescue crews who eventually were able to extricate all three victims by 2:11 a.m.
Two victims were transported to the hospital by ground ambulance. The third victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Information on the victims was not immediately available.
