NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Lusher High School in New Orleans is gaining national attention after turning down food from Chick-fil-A "out of respect" for its LGBTQ staff, and because of the restaurant's stance on LGBTQ issues.
According to WWL-TV , the school's principal, Dr. Steven Corbett, said Chick-Fil-A's values don't align with the school's values. The principal made the statement that "out of respect to our LGBTQ staff," the school has decided not to serve Chick-fil-A at an employee lunch.
The principal went on to say the #1 rule at Lusher High School is to be kind -- and because Chick-fil-A is politically outspoken on its views towards the LGBTQ community, he feels it is not part of the school's "culture of kindness and community."
The food was offered as part of a free lunch for teachers for an event sponsored by the College Football Playoff Foundation, according to WWL-TV . The principal apparently appreciated the offer, but said ultimately they would have to decline.
Chick-fil-A has donated millions to organizations that are against same-sex marriage.
