CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- Two men ran from their car after it smashed into an Interstate 805 guardrail and burst into flames early Monday morning in Chula Vista.
At 1:54 a.m., a car carrying two men traveling northbound on I-805, north of Bonita Road, lost control and slammed into a guardrail.
According to California Highway Patrol, as the men got of the car, it erupted in flames. The two men began to run north as officers arrived on scene. Officers reportedly witnessed one of the men get picked up by a sports car. The other man was detained by CHP.
The I-805 north onramp from E Street was temporarily closed while CHP cleared the scene and a tow truck removed the charred remains of the car.
The circumstances of the crash are under investigation.
