SAN DIEGO - A man found fatally wounded alongside the body of a roommate at their South Bay apartment last weekend shot her before turning the gun on himself, authorities reported.
Autopsies determined that Ren J. Verasco, 69, killed 64-year-old Suzanne Kirkwood King on Sept. 11 at the rental residence in the 300 block of Imperial Beach Boulevard and then committed suicide, according to sheriff's officials.
Another man who lives in the apartment heard the gunfire shortly after 5 p.m. and found Verasco and King lying on the floor of the bedroom they shared, Lt. Kenneth Nelson said. Each had suffered a bullet wound to the head.
King died at the scene of the shooting. Verasco was pronounced dead at a hospital later in the evening.
Authorities released no suspected motive for the shooting and did not disclose whether King and Verasco had any relationship beyond sharing the same residence.
