SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) - A man was taken to the hospital after being shot while he sat in his car that was parked on a Spring Valley street.

Authorities received a report at about 11:20 p.m. Thursday of about 11 gunshots heard in the area of Sweetwater Road and Troy Street.

Moments later, someone notified authorities of a man who had been shot on Sweetwater Road near Ildica Street.

The victim, identified as Maurice Carter, was sitting in his BMW when someone opened fire on his vehicle. Carter was struck at least three times.

Authorities said the victim managed to get out of the bullet-riddled car, but the vehicle rolled -- and hit him -- and then crashed into a pole at the intersection of Sweetwater Road and Ildica Street.

Emergency crews responding to the scene took the victim to Scripps Mercy Hospital. Authorities believe the victim will survive his injuries.

The victim told authorities he did not know the person who shot him but noted he possibly saw the suspected shooter at a marijuana dispensary on Troy Street.

No other details were provided.
