(KGTV) - A tree branch believed to have been knocked down by Thursday's strong winds fell on a man at a Carlsbad park and killed him.
Carlsbad officials said the incident happened at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holiday Park on Chestnut Avenue.
Officials said the man was getting out of his car when he was struck by the falling tree branch. The man, believed to be in his 70s, was declared dead at the scene.
City officials said the area of the park where the incident occurred was closed to the public. Officials said the tree had been pruned on a regular basis.
Officials were weighing whether to shut down other city parks due to the high wind conditions.
