SAN DIEGO -- Police forced their way into a Pacific Beach home to apprehend a man who had allegedly taken his girlfriend hostage early Monday morning.

According to San Diego police, it was the second time in two weeks that officers had been called to the location due to the same suspect. Last month, an hours-long SWAT standoff with the same man ended in his escape.

The incident began at 2:30 a.m. at a townhome complex in the 1400 block of Pacific Beach Drive when a woman called 911 to report that her boyfriend was assaulting her. As they arrived, the woman tried to run out to them, but her boyfriend dragged her back inside the unit and barricaded the door.

Officers heard the suspect smashing windows in the apartments, and fearing for the woman’s safety, moved in by breaking down the door. Officers tasered the suspect and deployed a K-9 on him as well. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

The suspect was transported to a hospital for evaluation. His name and the charges he faces were not immediately confirmed.

The woman was not seriously hurt.
