SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man who barricaded himself inside a Hillcrest home, prompting a standoff that blocked a busy street Wednesday, was arrested after police stormed the house and subdued him.

San Diego police said officers surrounded a home on Pennsylvania Avenue at 5th Avenue shortly before 9:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a man holed up inside with two potential hostages, and access to a shotgun and other weapons.

Officers tried to get the man, who reportedly threatened to harm himself, to come out of the home, but he refused, prompting a standoff.

Pennsylvania Avenue at 5th Avenue was blocked off as police continued to wait for the man to give himself up. Two men walked out of the home unharmed and police determined they had not been held as hostages.

The home was located next to the Deli Llama sandwich shop. No one was available to respond to 10News’ call to the store.

Shortly before 12:30 p.m., officers and a police K9 entered the home, and a rubber projectile and pepper balls were used to subdue the man.

The unidentified man was transported to the hospital to be evaluated.

No other injuries were reported.
