CARLSBAD -- A suspicious device discovered at the Westfield mall in Carlsbad on Saturday turned out to be what investigators are calling a 'hoax device.'
Shoppers evacuated a portion of the mall, located at 2525 El Camino Real, and a bomb squad was called in to investigate. They ended up detonating the device using a water cannon and determined that it was inert.
An investigation is under way.
