Suspect arrested in deadly El Cerrito shooting

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A suspect was arrested in connection with a shooting that killed one man in the El Cerrito neighborhood late Saturday night, San Diego Police announced.

Joseph Mehlenbacher,18, was booked into the San Diego County Jail on Wednesday for murder in the death of 28-year-old Kenneth Confer four days earlier, according to police.

Shortly after 11 p.m. on December 26, Police were called to the 5700 block of El Cajon Boulevard after receiving reports of a possible shooting in the area. When they arrived, officers found Confer with an apparent gunshot to the head. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died, according to police.

Little is known about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, but police say the victim was involved in a fight with the Melenbacher.

On December 30, with the Murrieta Police Department's help, Mehlenbacher was located in the city of Murrieta and arrested without incident. He is being held on $3 million bail.
