SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police were searching for a suspect following a violent shooting in the Midway District on Wednesday night.
San Diego Police said officers received a call of shots fire followed by a vehicle crashing into a building at Kenyon St. and Kemper St. just after 6 p.m. The car was located behind a shopping center in the 3600 block of Midway Dr., SDPD said.
Officers arrived to find a man behind the steering wheel of a grey Acura that collided with a retaining wall. The man had been shot at least once. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The victim has not been identified but was described as a possible Hispanic male between 18 and 25 years old.
Police are searching for a suspect, but say the investigation is still in its early stages. Witnesses heard a car speed off, but police did not immediately have a suspect description. SDPD added that investigators believe that there was another man with the victim at the time of the collision who was seen walking away from the scene.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call SDPD's Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
