SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The father of a 7-week-old girl who died earlier this month has been arrested following the death.
According to San Diego Police, officers were called to the 3700 block of La Jolla Village Drive on March 18 just after 10 p.m. regarding a call of a non-breathing infant inside a townhome.
The infant was taken to the hospital for treatment. During an investigation, it was determined that the 7-week-old “had sustained serious traumatic internal injuries that were indicative of physical child abuse.”
“Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the infant died of her injuries later that day,” police said.
“At this time, detectives have learned this incident appears to a tragic domestic-related incident where the infant’s father inflicted the fatal injuries upon his daughter,” police added. “There are no outstanding suspects and this appears to be an isolated incident.”
On March 22, Jaime Santillanes, 37, was arrested on the 4400 block of Derrick Avenue and booked into jail. He is facing several charges, including murder and abuse of a child under 8 years old resulting in death.
