ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — CHP officers are searching for the driver who hit a motorcyclist in the North County on Friday and fled the scene.

At about 6:30 a.m., a 44-year-old man was riding a 2014 Yamaha motorcycle on southbound Interstate 15 north of State Route 78. The driver of a Kia Soul changed lanes, hitting the motorcyclist, and ejecting him from the bike and into the center divider, CHP says.

After the collision, the Kia avoided hitting the rider but fled the scene.

The motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital with major injuries that are considered non-life threatening.

The Kia Soul SUV is described as being a 2014 year model or newer and brown in color. Vehicle parts with identification numbers that were recovered at the scene are being processed, CHP said.

The vehicle will also have damage to the driver side and is missing a driver's side mirror, CHP added.

Anyone with information is asked to call CHP at 858-560-0474.
