OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) –A man visiting the beach with his family drowned in Oceanside over Labor Day weekend, police say.

Oceanside Police say the 31-year-old man from Victorville was on a trip with his family when he went swimming and never returned to shore.

According to police, he was later found by some people walking on the beach.

After he was located, lifeguards tried to revive him using CPR, but the man died, authorities say.

The drowning happened the day after a 73-year-old woman died in Mission Bay.

According to lifeguards, the woman was known to swim in Mission Bay almost weekly.

Lifeguards say she appeared not to be swimming in a straight line when they swam out and brought her to shore.

Lifeguards performed CPR on the 73-year-old, but she later died.

"She had some sort of heart issue. The medics were working on her for quite some time,” Lt. Andy Lerum said.
