VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A suspect has been arrested following a hit-and-run that seriously injured an Escondido restaurant owner in 2019.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Rene Solorio, 35, was arrested on January 4 in connection with the December 21, 2019, hit-and-run crash.

Kaitlyn “Rosie” Pilsbury was riding her motorcycle when she was hit head-on by an SUV on North Melrose Drive near the intersection of West Vista Way in Vista. The driver abandoned the SUV and ran off.

Detectives said someone had borrowed the SUV, complicating the investigation.

Pilsbury is the owner of Rosie’s Café and is known for dressing up as Rosie the Riveter. Pilsbury suffered massive injuries and was in a coma for 12 days.

Her restaurant had been featured on Restaurant Impossible earlier in 2019.

In a Facebook post, show host Robert Irvine -- citing Pilsbury - said the arrest happened because of 'DNA and some serious police work.'
