SAN DIEGO – An out-of-control Jeep smashed into the living room of a City Heights home while a family was asleep inside Tuesday morning.

The driver is expected to face drunken driving charges.

According to San Diego police, at about 12:30 a.m., a Jeep traveling in the 4200 block of 50th Street lost control, jumped the curb and went through a chain-link fence and slammed into the living room of a home. The force was so strong it left a giant hole in the wall and pushed a couch across the room, police said.

The family was asleep in their bedrooms at the time and were not hurt.

“They were confused,” a neighbor told 10News. “They just woke up, they looked out the window and were like, ‘what the heck is going on?’”

The driver was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. He is expected to be arrested on charges of driving under the influence. His name was not released.

A city building inspector will examine the home later Tuesday to ensure it is stable enough for the family to move back in. A financial estimate of the damage was not confirmed.
