Tourists at the hotel on Wednesday night were shocked about the news.
"I was super surprised, I didn’t think they would change something like that," said Olivia Sanantonio.
Others worried that a big name like Hilton will change the historic landmark.
"I hope they improve the hotel, improve the brand in general but keep the historical meaning of this hotel for the community," Lourdes Salcedo.
Hilton's Curio website follows the same information, stating that guests will be able to book one of the hotel's 757 rooms - which include "rooms in the Victorian building, Ocean Towers and California Cabanas" in July.
Hilton currently operates three other Curio hotels in California. The Hotel La Jolla is the only other property in San Diego County.
