SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen visited the U.S.-Mexico border in Calexico Wednesday to view the renovation of border fencing in the area.
The construction has been touted as part of President Trump’s proposed border wall, but funding for the fencing repairs was included in the 2018 budget. Plans for the 100 miles of repairs reportedly began several years ago.
Aside from a tour of the project, Nielsen spoke with DHS employees and Border Patrol agents to “thank them for their commitment to secure the border.”
