SAN DIEGO – Construction could create a traffic nightmare for travelers headed north on Interstate 5 through Orange County overnight Friday and into Saturday morning.
Caltrans is shifting traffic to newly constructed lanes at Avenida Pico in San Clemente. The work will reduce I-5 north to one lane between 10 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday.
From 5 a.m. to noon on Saturday, I-5 north will have two lanes open. The northbound lanes will be fully reopened beginning at noon.
Meanwhile, from 10 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday, the Avenida Pico northbound on and off ramps will be closed.
