EL CAJON, Calif. - A former volunteer tutor at two Spring Valley schools who pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography was sentenced Thursday to 180 days on supervised electronic surveillance and ordered to register as a sex offender.

Gary Alan Dallman, 69, was also placed on five years probation. He pleaded guilty last month.

Sheriff's deputies went to Dallman's East County home on Kempton Street last Oct. 27 after a caregiver found pornographic materials and notified authorities.

Detectives served a search warrant and found child pornography stored on electronic devices.

Sheriff's Lt. Greg Rylaarsdam said Dallman was a tutor at Kempton Elementary School and La Presa Middle School.

School officials immediately terminated Dallman when they were notified of the investigation, the lieutenant said.

The judge said Dallman, a former Navy chaplain, had an unblemished record.
