ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) – A driver is in custody Wednesday after a stolen car pursuit that started in Valley Center and ended on Interstate 15 in Escondido.

San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies said they located a stolen black 2006 Audi A3 driving on N. Lake Wohlford Rd. at 4 p.m.

Deputies said they tried to stop the vehicle but the driver sped away.

The pursuit went through Valley Center and the Rincon, Pauma and Pala Indian Reservations at speeds up to 90 miles per hour.

Deputies laid out tire deflation devices but the vehicle eventually reached Interstate 15 near Highway 395.

After a chase that traveled 26.5 miles over 37 minutes, the car caught fire and stopped on I-15 at Valley Parkway, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies said they arrested the driver, Brian Kleinfeldt, on stolen vehicle charges.  He is being held at the Vista Detention Facility.
