SAN DIEGO -- Firefighters and officers had a tough time locating a car after it crashed into a median on State Route 94 in Lemon Grove late Monday night.
The crash occurred on State Route 94 east near College Avenue at around 11:45 p.m. According to California Highway Patrol, the car was traveling east on SR-94 when it crashed into the center divide and came to rest in an ice plant.
Some people on a side street witnessed the crash, called 911 and ran over to help the female driver and sole occupant of the car.
San Diego Fire-Rescue and CHP responded. However, because the area has no lights and the car was painted black, crews initially passed by the crash scene before circling back, CHP said. They arrived to find a mangled car with a windshield that had been shattered by the steering wheel.
The driver was rushed to a local hospital with only minor injuries, CHP said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
