SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) - A third San Diego County Vaccination Super Station is now open at the California State University, San Marcos Sports Center.
The first two sites are at Petco Park and in Chula Vista, and there are plans to add a fourth Super Station to East County in the next week. There are also smaller vaccination sites called “pods” around the county, in areas such as Chula Vista, National City, Imperial Beach and El Cajon.
The new San Marcos site will be open to the public weekly from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. Initially, the site is expected to vaccinate 250 to 1,000 people per day, depending on the number of vaccines available, eventually building up-to 5,000+ vaccines daily.
Appointments for this site can be made online at www.VaccinationSuperStationSD.com. Those who arrive for appointments can park at 103 Campus View Drive. There will be free parking on floors two and three of the parking structure. The Sports Complex is on the corner of Campus View Drive and Campus Way.
For people lucky enough to score an appointment the first day, there was a wait once they arrived. Multiple people told ABC 10News they arrived more than an hour before their appointment time, then didn’t make it to the front of the line until an hour after their appointment time.
“First day open, they’re going to have some glitches to work through, but you know what we’re so blessed to be here so it’s fine. I’ll stay here all day if I have to. My day trips are only to the garage anyway, so what’s the big deal?” said Dee McReynolds, who said she stood in line for multiple hours. She said she was only able to make an appointment with her daughter's help, who navigated the website for her.
Another person who waited for hours was Meera Kamdar, but she didn’t get the vaccine. She said she tried to make appointments for both her and her husband, but was only able to book a slot for him, so she went and waited with him for his time slot.
“It is sometimes frustrating because you keep on trying on a computer and you’re not getting anywhere,” said Kamdar. She said she’s thankful her husband was able to get his first dose, but worries about when she’ll be able to book her appointments.
At this site, people park their cars and stand in line, so many first-day-attendees also advise people bring water, sun protection and a chair to sit on, if standing for long periods of time is difficult.
The county-sponsored Vaccination Super Station is hosted in partnership with California State University, San Marcos. Additional support is provided by Palomar Health, UC San Diego Health and Tri-City Medical Center.
