CHULA VISTA (KGTV) - The Chula Vista Police Department is investigating an increase in car break-ins in the eastern part of the city.

This week suspects targeted vehicles mainly in the area of Proctor Valley Rd and Northwoods Drive, or Mount Miguel and East H Street.

A map shows 14 crimes on July 16, 17 and 18.

Police said the thieves broke into cars parked on the street or in driveways where valuables were visible inside the car.

The Chula Vista Police Department issued recommendations for owners:

  • Never leave valuables in view
  • Always lock your car
  • Park in a well-lit area
  • Install an alarm
  • Close car windows
  • Park in attended lots when possible
  • Avoid parking between large vehicles
  • Take out removable radios
